Catrin Finch Aud 2 1.30pm

I felt i should attend this lecture as it was childrens illustration (there were other lectures i would have liked to attend) and my work was partially generally partially childrens illustration. The lecture she gave was mainly about Ethiopian illustration and culture and related to my own style and way of working very little.

Her influences she said were ‘Author Rackman and Shaun Tan both of which worked in a similar style. She has produced educational books and illustrations for the Ethiopian government and highlighted the setbacks with culture and the difficulties she faces.

Some of the books she has worked on include ‘the ten donkeys’, donkeys being a major part of Ethiopian culture and relating the nature of the story to her audience.

What she did recomend which i have looked into before was Illustration Friday. a website who give a weekly theme for illustrators/artists to enter. I will look into this and try to enter this before leaving university.

Overall I feel this lecture was helpful to a certain extent however my career path i hope to be very different.
