Joe lists talk has to be by far my favourite of the week. He was engaging and had the audience laughing throughout. After leaving university with no particular style or knowledge of what he wanted to do properly he worked on small graphic design jobs, comics and illustrated for a number of smaller publications. It took him three years to manage to pay the bills and live off his illustration/design income. The presentation was very informal and so different entirely from some of the other pitches.

His advice was –

– Always look professional (website, business cards etc)
– Don’t work for free, always get something out of it and dont be taken advantage of starting out.
– Keep pitching to clients and dont give up
– Dont hide your work make good use of the networking available

He aslo explained some of his favourite work and good blogs to follow- David o’Reiley, John K, Rex box and Grain edit. I will look into these and see if they are relevant to my own work.
